Over the last few years, the United States of America (USA) has eased its visa policies, so that many Chinese families are choosing to send their children abroad to study. The experienced Guidance Counselors at New Oriental Academy (NOA) provide individualized planning for all students who wish to make an application, and work with them to maximize their chances of admission.
NOA’s Guidance Counselor’s office often
invites admissions staff from overseas universities to visit the school, to
give them an opportunity to communicate face-to-face with their potential
students. In turn, students can obtain from them the most up-to-date
information about admissions to overseas colleges.
Let’s have a look at the colleges that visited NOA last week…
One of the world’s most highly ranked academic universities.
Mandy Lohan from Admissions
A prestigious public university in the U.S., member of the Association of American Universities (AAU).
The Missouri School of
Journalism was the first of its kind in the world.
One of the 30 “Public Ivy”universities in the U.S and one of“The Big 10” in the Midwest of the United States.
A public research university with three higher education institutions. Former president, Obama visited Rutgers twice, and delivered the keynote speech at its 250th Anniversary graduation ceremony.
When they visit, Admissions staff provide important information about their universities on topics such as: location, environment, choice of major, admission policies, procedures and requirements, faculty and staff, and potential scholarships. The students have a wonderful opportunity to compare and contrast the various colleges, which helps them to make the right choice.
Why invite students to meet Admissions staff at NOA?
NOA’s Guidance Counselor, Ke Zeng told us:
"Just because a US school is a top ranked university, it does not mean that it is the most suitable for the student. Location, teaching style, campus culture are all elements that should be considered for a students’ future development. In the past, students used the internet to research possible overseas universities, but this does not necessarily provide enough information for students to make the right decisions. Through events like these, meeting Admissions staff in person, students can ask their own individual questions in order to work our what is the best fit for them."
The three professional Guidance Counselors at NOA provide students and families with a multitude of services: directing and planning for standardized examinations; choosing suitable coursework; interpreting information about the policies and procedures of overseas universities. The counselors also guide students in selecting appropriate campus associations, and in choosing or arranging social activities to help with the transition from life in China to the USA. The support that we provide at NOA to our students and their families is without doubt invaluable in helping them to choose the college that is the best fit for their future education.
